Trader Albrecht

Just a few days ago I told a friend from New Jersey she definitely had to be wrong when she claimed there was a Trader Joe's in Manhattan. Well, apparently there is. Equipped with Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and the Farmer's Market, the Union Square area has been transformed into a kind of heaven. Gone are the days when finding none Chinese groceries downtown was synonymous with getting ripped of at MET's or Dean&Deluca's, truly pleasurable shopping has come to the island and apparently the lines are around the block.
But how come, if Trader Joe's is owned by German businessman Theo Albrecht, the owner of Aldi Nord, how come he doesn't consider his fellow countrymen worthy of receiving a bit of trendy lowcost shopping with a goodvibe Hawaiian attitude? Instead all we get in Germany is bad-mood deal-grabbing lowcost unfancy no-service bad-attitude shopping with overweight cashiers in ugly aprons? I must admit that the line at Aldi tends to move a lot faster than at Trader Joe's. But who cares about lines if you can discover exciting new candies at excitingly low prices while you are waiting.
It's just not fair.
